Visible Monday #22: Showing Some Curves

Welcome to Visible Monday #22! If you want to participate, it's so easy: just go to the bottom of this post for the simple how-to.

I have three general rules for age appropriate dressing (rules for me, not for you): nothing too short, too tight or too low cut. I don't feel comfortable showing a lot of leg or chest. And I don't often wear figure-hugging sweaters to the office, but I bent my rules for this cute little sweater.

This is a Nanette Lepore top, so pretty in muted teal and with crochet accents at the neck, sleeves and hem. I bought it at a resale shop in NYC. It suits my feminine vibe, but I balanced that with a simple knit maxi skirt by GAP and chunky boots. I added a little ivory blazer when seeing clients.

How do you feel about showing some curves? And oh yes, please show us what you're wearing today!

The guidelines to participate in the Visible Monday Link-Up are so simple!
  1. Any Monday, whoever wants to can join in! Just compose a post that includes any outfit, accessory, piece of jewelry, hairstyle, cosmetic or other adornment that makes you feel more confident, alive and visible that day.
  2. Include a link to Not Dead Yet Style somewhere in your post.
  3. Go to the bottom of this post and click on this cute little link:

In the "Next Step", you crop the pic (easy tool) you want to display, and you're done!

  1. I like you showing some curves, Patti!  And very tastful too.  Not too sexy for work but very flattering.  Love the top!  We do need the balance tween too sexy and too frumpy and you do this well!

  2. Since I have such conspicuous curves in the hippal area, I'm always showing curves!  LOL  But I like it!  And I do love that color on you....it suits you and matches your delicate look!  Beautiful!

  4. You look lovely in this outfit. The top is just so you. It is very feminine and the delicate color is just lovely.
Back before I gained so much weight I did like to show my curves. Now not so much. I prefer to skim the roundness rather than emphasize it.

  5. It's a lovely sweater - you look great in it! I'm probably quite the opposite - I like tearing up the rule book - I might not so much in ten years time, but for now I'm still fine with the low cut, the body hugging and the short.  Not all the time, and certainly never for the office, but life's too short not to forget there are rules and just have fun with fashion from time to time!

  6. You have fantastic curves and you are showing them off in the most lovely and appropriate way. I adore Nanette Lepore (hey, that rhymes!) That color is great on you.

I am so glad to have found you and Visibly Monday. What a terrific idea. xoxo, A

  7. I love the top, it is so exquisitely feminine... but I'm not liking it with the dark skirt. I'd love to see this top paired with something not such a stark contrast.

  9. I think that tight top suits you really nice! I don't like to show a lot cleavage but do like to show some curves sometimes. It all depends on my mood..

  10. I wouldn't confuse showing curves with showing skin.  I'm less keen on skin.

I think the top is flattering.  It's probably appropriate to wear a jacket over it when meeting with clients but that's more because I view a jacket as projecting authority than because you need to cover-up your breasts.

Curves are quite cultural.  African American women show off curvy bottoms that would have me looking for a butt-covering tunic top.  They look great.  Apparently the curve of an exposed ankle drives Muslim men to madness.

  11. I have the same three rules as you. Now that I'm in my forties, I'm not as comfortable in tight fitting clothes as ten years ago.  And definitely a "no-no" to low cut tops. You look nice in this fitting top, very classy and feminine. You're showing some nice curves without being distasteful.

  14. I love the top! It's a great color for you.

I like to show curves, yes, but I do avoid showing cleavage. Also, I have more bulges around my middle than I'd like, so I have to be careful not to wear anything too tight in that area.

  15. You do this so well! What a pretty top, and I love the way you've balanced it with simple pieces, toughing its prettiness up just enough.
With my granddaughter visiting, I never found a minute to grab photos, so I'll just be looking on this week -- already I see a wonderful array of new inspirations.

  17. Even at 19, I'm very modest and don't like to wear things that are too tight and too short. It's just not comfortable or functional for real life. There are ways to be sexy and comfortable and tasteful all at once...and I definitely think your outfit here accomplishes that.

  21. eek... showing curves. it's scary! that being said, you look great, and you tempered it so well by pairing it with the maxi skirt! (cleavage and curves are what freaks me out!)

  22. Patti-I have the same rules set for myself 95% of the time. I do it in the name of modesty as well as good taste though. You are a woman to emulate for sure. Modest, but always put together and beautiful! Your figure is lovely, and I think this shows it in a very classy way.
I recently did a post about my own curves, which I sometimes embrace and other times shun:-)
I'm post dropping again, but only because I thought you might be interested. http://www.stealmystyle.net/2011/10/caution-curves-aheadand-horizontal_21.html

  23. I love this look on you and the color is divine.  Many times rules are meant to be broken!

  24. Love that top on you!  I'm not comfortable with tight (too many love handles on this frame), but I love when an item just lightly skims over the surface of the body, showing some graceful, feminine curves.  So flattering!

  25. Ack! I almost forgot! Sorry to be late to the party. :)

Love that top, Patti - it's so "you"!

  26. Patti you have a beautiful figure.  Show it off.  I understand your rules though.  I don't like anything too tight up top but can't help it sometimes.  Beautiful sweater.  I will link up next week.  Promise. Dawn xoxo
