This simple black Banana Republic dress has gotten many wearings in the last two years. I dread the day it can no longer come out and play. It's a sleeveless knit with a plain top and knife-pleated bottom. The bottom makes a great skirt!
This time I wore a feminine ruffled blouse over the dress and it makes for a nice silhouette. On colder days, I've worn a slouchy sweater on top, or a well-made tee and a blazer.
It's blogging and reading blogs that's taught me how to multi-purpose my clothes. Thanks, everyone!

| Probably the last showing of the boots until October -- goodbye, dear friends! |

Patti, what a great idea to maximize a wardrobe! Thanks again for hosting Visible Monday...you look beautiful as always my dear!
ReplyDeleteThis worked great! Lovely outfit...I learned how to do this on a blog a couple of years ago and it is one of my wardrobe-stretching tricks! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun (and apparently simple) way to change the look of your dress -- and you look great!
ReplyDeleteOooooo! Gorgeous! I do loves me some black and white! Hugs gorgeous girl! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteThis top over a dress is a trick I don't think I've ever tried, though you've given me an idea for something in April...
ReplyDeleteThanks Patti for organizing our Mondays for us!
Very cute and smart. You look great!
ReplyDeleteHi Patti!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love a simple black dress that is so versatile! I'm sad about putting away the boots, too! Happy April, and have a wonderful week!
Great look today Patti and nice boots too!
ReplyDeleteI love your ruffled light top over your dress! And you have taught me "knife pleats." Thank you! I struggle sometimes for the correct terminology...
ReplyDeleteCute! The outfit looks breezy and beautiful, and the layering works with the boots. Your ideas never fail!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love items that can double up like that - I used to have a chunky knit maxi skirt which I used to use as a strapless dress which I belted around the waist.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea Patti, I have to try.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely Monday.

very feminine and flowy outfit, I like it with the boots. And the dress now looks fabulous as a pleated skirt.

Clever! I will have to try this with my newly thrifted Club Monaco dress...
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting VM! xoxo, A
The dress as a skirt looks great on you - I love the idea of making your clothes do double duty. I have to take a new look at my dresses and see if any of them can be used the same way. Thank you for giving us all this opportunity to get more exposure every Monday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic outfit!! Looks great on you, too! That's my kind of silhouette, though I cannot go sleeveless.

Don't you just love getting extra mileage out of garments? I have a couple of dresses I can do that with (dress as skirt) and wish I could pull myself away from all the shiny internet objects to sew some more. Someday...
ReplyDeleteYou shine as usual! I also learned from other bloggers to both use my dresses as skirts and as tops. The style blogging community is so full of inspiration and lovely ladies! I have found many of them through Visible Monday!
ReplyDeletePatti, you look lovely. It is so wonderful that we are all learning from each other and trying new things. I would've never tried some of the outfits I have if it had not been for reading everyone else's blogs. Your Visible Monday is such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress as skirt. It's one of my favorite tricks and you did it very well indeed.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for hosting Visible Monday - I'm excited to link up this week!
An excellent example of repurposing!
ReplyDeleteI really need to try that dress-as-skirt thing, particularly since I'm always bloody cold, and could use an extra layer. You look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I look forward to this every week.
First time linking up! Thanks for hosting... I decided yesterday it was time to say goodbye to my boots myself! Sad... but not too sad when I think about all my sandals!
ReplyDeleteFair well boots! Hello pretty spring tops. The dress makes a perfect skirt.
ReplyDeleteI love this chic, sophisticated look. Great idea to layer the blouse over a basic black dress. One I would have never thought of my own, before I started reading style blogs. Thanks for hosting Visible Mondays!
ReplyDeleteVery chic and what a great idea. I'm learning about so many new blogs through brilliant Visible Monday. You are the major connector!
ReplyDeleteYou look so lovely, Patti! I would agree that I owe a debt of thanks to the fashion blogosphere - my own style would never have grown the way it has without being inspired by so many creative people.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Sheila (of Ephemera)
Supercute! Dress-as-skirt is a new trick to me, too, and I like it! Saying goodbye to beautiful boots is so hard, isn't it? Thanks for hosting Visible Monday. It's always such fun!
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is so pretty! Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is so pretty! =)

This is a great idea. I usually put something under a dress. This coming fall/winter, I'm going to change it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad putting the boots away. I love boots.
Your whole outfit is great. Can't go wrong with black and white!
