Lyons likes to mix high and low-fashion pieces, break the rules of the red carpet, and even shock some stodgy fashion observers. She's a fan of multi-layering and print-mixing and neon. She wears sequins in the daytime and denim jackets to black-tie affairs.

I wouldn't feel comfortable dressing exactly like Ms. Lyons (but I'd like to play in her closet!) and I'm not six feet tall. But I am inspired by her creativity and mixing of elements. Have a look at the slideshow if you have a moment, and tell us what you think? Anything you'd like to borrow?
And please don't forget: Visible Monday is on for Monday February 11th. Everyone is invited to participate!

I love her floral pants. WOW!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I wouldn't wear everything but I do admire Jenna Lyons' style.
ReplyDeleteEven I love statement glasses I find these kind of oversized ones just too big, especially with a LBD - but of course I know it's her thing.
Outfit 6 is stunning, I love the cashmere coat and black leather trousers.

Good eye, spotting Iris!! I saw this piece and I was taken with the pants in the first picture...something I would wear, but not with stripes. Oh, I guess I can thank her for my new glasses...my big Ray Bans...I am finding that people either hate them or love them...I saw one group of teen girls in the hallway snickering behind my back when I walked by...sigh...back to high school...I just decided to own it...much different from how I reacted back in my own HS!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a fan of those types of glasses I have to say but I do like how she mixes things up.
ReplyDeletePure style!!!! Chic!!! I love each outfit and the glasses! I had the perfect big pair in high school (20 years ago) and have been searching for a replacement since... Thanks for sharing about her because I'd never seen her -- Becky :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I like some of her mixes, but what I find most jarring is the odd combination of textures. I don't really like seeing very soft, silky fabrics with, say, denim or other heavy cottons. Some contrast is okay, but I guess that's pretty subjective.
ReplyDeleteThose green pants are amazing. I'd love to have a pair like that. I can imagine how silky smooth they must feel on the legs.
ReplyDeleteI like her style too & those floral pants...wow!
ReplyDeleteHi there! I really admire how self confident she is with her use of vivid colours and prints. I love how she has styled the denim jacket buttoned up over her white shirt too, certainly she is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteGreat slideshow ... thanks for pointing me in that direction. I WANT a pair of those glasses.
ReplyDeleteThe striped shirt and floral satin trousers look is easily my favourite. I don't know this woman at all but she has that modelesque look about her which means she could pretty much wear anything and look great! I like her glasses a lot too. But does anyone else think that denim jacket is just a terrible, unflattering fit on her? I love a denim jacket, and I applaud mixing it with a bright pink silk maxi skirt, but that jacket does NOT fit well! xxxx
ReplyDeleteThe future Iris Apel?
ReplyDeleteI like almost all of her pieces (except the fur) ...I just wouldn't put them together the same way she has.
ReplyDeleteHer total confidence allows her to carry off each look impeccably with aplomb and style. Without that people would just call her eccentric and move on.
bisous
Suzanne
Her style is smart and confident- two traits that should be celebrated more in dress.
ReplyDeleteI love her style but it does help that she's 6 feet tall. At 5'2" I'd look like a little clown...I know because I've tried it! Darn!
ReplyDeleteI admire her dedication to her style, but I have to say - I'm not a fan!! I'm not much of a J. Crew poster girl anyway, so I'm not surprised. She can keep rockin' her personal style, but I'll refrain from borrowing any of her clothes. ;) Even if they wouldn't swallow my short frame.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind borrowing her creativity :-)

You said it perfectly, I would love to play in her closet. I always look forward to receiving my jcrew catalog and email ideas from Ms. Lyons, her creative outlook is very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteDitto what you said Patti, and that's probably the greatest compliment to pay Ms. Lyons. To be an inspiration. As much as I love colour, I am really drawn to the camo pants with the fur and sequins...has to be fake fur though, and my cat vest would be just right.
ReplyDeleteI love her style - and if I had the body and the wallet for it I'd wear almost everything she owns! She can keep the glasses though, and my own denim jacket has a far better fit. I will have a go at the the silk skirt and denim jacket combination this summer. It's such an easy outfit to copy/interpret. Now I just need to find some special occasion to show it off!
ReplyDeleteI like the way she mixes up casual and dressy and love the first outfit in the sequence best. x
ReplyDeleteShe is a HUGE influence today, whether you know who she is or not and whether or not you shop at J Crew.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a great style!
ReplyDeleteHey there! I just wanted to ask if you ever
ReplyDeletehave any trouble with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was
hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard
work due to no back up. Do you have any methods to protect against hackers?

I think it's an example of how someone young (and tall) can get away with things that would leave most ordinary women headed for a session with Stacy & Clinton. I saw the article in the Times and my overwhelming thought was that she needs a better bra.
ReplyDeleteWow, incredible weblog structure! How lengthy have you ever been blogging
